Birds Hill kitchen renovation receives on-point design-build services

We were approached by our client in Birds Hill. They had a rustic oak cabinetry kitchen. While the cabinets and some of the other parts of the kitchen were in good shape – the style and functionality weren’t what our client desired. They long dreamt of a modernized, on-point with the trends – type of kitchen renovation. They hired Dash Builders to bring their dream to life!

Special Features: Full kitchen renovation gutted to the studs; new trendy and modern design; bright countertops and cabinets; waterfall island feature; full tile backsplash with dark grout; refinished hardwood floors; wine refrigerator and storage

Good bones, kitchen renovation in need of modernization

Structurally, the kitchen’s layout made a lot of sense. They had a well-placed central island and the sink overlooked a fabulous view of the backyard that includes a river view. However, as we discussed the need for their kitchen renovation, there was room for improvement. Therefore, we worked tirelessly with their requirements and using 3D models, we showed them options to alleviate the concerns and shortcomings with their existing kitchen. Once we had a winning layout, we went to work!

Deconstruction plays a part in the demolition

As mentioned, and as you’ll see in the before photo, the old cabinets were still in decent shape. We’re firm believers in going green wherever we can, and our clients felt the same. So, instead of just ripping the cabinets off the wall and deposing of them at the landfill, we made the conscious decision to deconstruct. Deconstruction takes more time, as the materials and fixtures are removed gently so they can be used again – not destroyed. However, the good far outweighs the extra time investment needed. We worked with our client to find a suitable organization to have the cabinets donated – and one day again, they’ll see new life.

New beam and electrical moved

After the cabinets were cleared out and we completed the rest of the demolition. We moved right along to installing the new beam. As well, our design-build process found the layout is improved by moving the stove and oven to the same side as the sink. Also, it would allow us to vent the exhaust hood to the exterior of the home and reduce the congestion in the layout. Finally, the electrical needed was moved to facilitate the appliances moving.

Kitchen renovation receives a modern interpretation

An enormous focus of the project was to bring some modern amenities into the newly designed kitchen space. As part of our kitchen renovation consultation process, we guided our client to some key decisions – pushing the look of the kitchen to new heights.

Exhaust hood for stove/oven

A statement piece in design, the new exhaust hood is a fantastic visual while also being entirely practical. Therefore, moving the appliance location to an exterior wall allowed us to vent the exhaust to the outside of the home.

Statement subway tile

Our tile selection is on-trend with fancy European kitchens and looks like something directly out of a magazine. So, our choice was to pop the tile with dark grout. Finally, we meticulously created a faux-stone grey wall that turned out amazing.

Islands are better with a waterfall

All the rage right now, the island with a continuous waterfall edge was incorporated into this kitchen design. Also, made entirely of durable quartz, the entire island becomes a showpiece for this already stunning kitchen renovation.

Custom cabinets, oversized hardware, state-of-the-art refrigeration

Completing the look, and full-on modernization, of this kitchen renovation, continues with:

  • Custom-built kitchen cabinetry with high gloss white finish for maximum brightness
  • Large format, oversized cabinet hardware
  • Fully refinished hardwood flooring in the kitchen space
  • Stainless steel farmhouse mount kitchen sink
  • Wine refrigeration and wine storage built-in as part of the island
  • State-of-the-art “smart” refrigerator with a large LED screen
