Unfinished basement renovations – start with a blank slate
Our customer came to looking for a basement renovation for their unfinished basement space. While it’s great to have endless opportunity and direction – some people can’t visual potential the way our team can. When you’re staring at a blank slate – where do you start? We love getting to know our customers on a personal level – what are their interests, hobbies, obsessions, and everything else in between. When we design a space, we want it to reflect their personality.
As part of this unique basement canvas, our architectural team created several options for our client – five to be exact. Each used the basement space in its unique way – driven by our customer’s goals and lifestyle needs. However, at the end of the day, we’re here for you. We discussed the advantages of each option at length and helped guide our client to make a concise decision.
Our “triple by-pass” is good for the heart
One of the most unique, key features of the basement space must be the custom design-build triple by-pass door. Even calling it a door doesn’t do it justice! The wall of glass windows can be completely slid out of view by our ingenious pocket door design. Perfect to keep the spaces separated but also lets the homeowner increase airflow simply by sliding the doors open. On the other side, a home gym – proving that our triple by-pass is good for the heart!
Basement renovations should include elements of fun, too
Focusing on all work and no play isn’t good for anyone. Our basement design includes a complete dry bar, great for whipping up one’s favourite cocktail. The bar includes a stunning grey-speckled quartz countertop anchored by custom-built black thermofoil cabinets. The cabinets keep the clutter out of sight with plenty of storage for bottles and other bar accessories. Since the bar area is a place to gather with friends and family while hosting, we included some floating shelves for the top-shelf bottles. There’s nothing wrong with showing off what you got a little.
Basement bathroom included in renovation increases usability
While our customer is working out or entertaining guests, we felt our basement design needed to include a new bathroom. We placed the two-piece powder room near the gym entrance for easy access, while also remaining somewhat separated from the main living area. It’s the little things that help any space become more usable – and in this example, no need to trek up the stairs to use the facilities.
Selected finishings complete this basement renovation
We understood that our customer wanted their basement renovation to act as a second living area. We carefully select the rest of the finishings based on this information:
- The use of comfortable carpet throughout the living space area
- Adding statement lighting fixtures over the bar area for added light
- Special flooring used in the basement home gym that is durable
- New vinyl plank flooring for the basement bathroom and laundry room
- Pot lights throughout the entire basement to brighten the space as much as possible
